I'm not going to make it....
As you can see, this hasn't progressed much. After several, meaning five maybe even six false starts (I stopped counting after the third time I ripped it out and started again, it was just too dispiriting..), I have got this far; which is a good way off the heel fun. Ho hum. But, I'm not going to be a quitter. This is not really any better than any of my previous attempts, all of which have been plagued with dropped stitches aplenty, and pattern-following-blindness brought on by impatience. Now I am writing out and marking off each row as I go, and even then only because I realised that I missed yet another plain knit row in the toe - an experience much like entering a room with a determined air of purpose and then finding you have no memory whatsoever of why you went there, only to wake in the middle of the night - possibly even several days hence - remembering that particular thing but for no apparently useful reason. It's a common affliction among middle aged women so I hear. So, I knew I'd done it, I just couldn't face ripping back again, even though it was maybe only two or three rows. So. It will be a row short of a full sock , never mind. But it will also be, at some distant point in the increasingly far away looking future, a sock.
