...but I have been doing this. I have always had the vague notion that it might be nice to make a patchwork quilt. In a moment of madness I decided to up-cycle some old duvet covers that no longer got any use since we made the up-grade from double to king size bed and duvets - which partly explains the slightly odd, rather retro-70ish-but-not-in-an-entirely-good-way colour scheme - and this is the result. It's my first real bash at patchwork and quilting with any seriousness, and it took a fair old whack of time (actually, it isn't totally finished, but I decided to bind the edges and take a short break to let my sewing hand recover - hand quilting turns out to be hard on the digits and I struggled with using thimble effectively).
It was bonkers really to embark on such a big project with no established sewing or quilt specific skills, but you know...sometimes you just have to plough ahead. I've learned a lot (next quilt - yes, there will be another - probably won't be hand quilted), and for all the many faults and bodges, it's still a usable, useful, and unique hand-crafted thing.
