...other thoughts on knitting magazines

I got a bit side lined there. I expect that editing a knitting magazine is no mean feat, and I guess that a design on paper may well look great; and then if it only gets finished just in time for the photo shoot.....well, I am thinking that a sturdy sense of humour is essential. And if I was editor of that mag I would have published it too, comedy element and all. Besides, knitting is more vulnerable to fashion disaster than any other garment production technique. You only have to check out the 80's knitting patterns in a charity shop to realise that. Geomentric, acidic colour way (especially royal blue for some reason - I never figured that out as I am sure it is one of those colours that suits absolutely no one), bat winged, mohair, tight cuffs.....no wonder knitting went out of fashion for a while.

Anyway, more importantly, I note that in one of these mags it states quite definitively that moss stitch is very fashionable, it seems that Debbie Bliss is doing it all over the shop, so I am bang on trend with my cheap yellow stash disaster cardigan after all. Somehow though, I just know it isn't going to work out well. I have ground to a bit of a halt with the sleeves. Flu and post flu exhaustion plus the need to go back to work to pick up for lost earnings have all contributed. That's my excuse anyway. The other is the hat design I am working on and will be putting up here for free as soon as it is done. I know. Timing is bad, what with spring and at some point summer coming along too. But my experience of holidaying in the UK is that a person usually requires a decent woolly hat for the cooler evenings.....anyway, here is a picture of the original.
This is tiny, baby sized really,
but the new one, and the pattern, will be bigger. It is really nice and simple, so I won't be telling anyone just how long it has taken me to work it out and get it down on paper. Don't hold your breath...
