Well, despite my fears, a stockinette Longitudinal is easy. It's just a case of reversing the order of right and wrong side - I think. Anyway, even if my solution is a bit round the houses, it works.
But, it's come out a bit wide. My sample sock was too narrow in garter. Looked fine but little people tend to have chunkier feet and legs than you think. This though is way too wide - is it possible that stocking stitch knits up 'deeper' than garter?
So, as per, I am going about this in a trial and error fashion, and ripping out is the next step.
By the way, the eye wateringly neon bright yarn is from my mum's stash - probably (maybe thankfully?) no longer available...a Wendy DK acrylic, which is fine for the bashing these will get from the intended recipient, who is still getting the hang of walking but will be up and running by the time these are done.
